Fair 2025
Christmas Fair 2025

Waddington Parish Council

Goodbye 2025 and hello 2026.

What a busy year we have had, and how lovely it has been to see some many residents at the village events.

November was a busy month, with the Remembrance Sunday at the beginning of the month and the Christmas Fair at the end of the month.

What a good turnout there was at the War Memorial on Bar Lane, for the Act of Remembrance, on Sunday 9th November, followed by refreshments in the Community Hub.  It was also nice to have the local café, Gwen’s Café, opening near the memorial so that people could stand with a bacon roll and a warm drink.

The Christmas Fair was on the 22nd November and it was another wet one, but we still had an amazing turn out of stall holders and residents.  With over 50 stalls, food and drink, Alpacas and Santa’s Grotto, such a lovely event to start the Christmas season with.  Thank you to all the lovely stall holders, and all the residents who came along to support the event.   The Parish Council raffle and guess the weight of the cake made £314, which goes towards future events.

On the 27th November NKDC held their Community Champion Awards, where our very own Councillor Martyn Hurst, was a finalist for the Community Spirit Award.  A well-deserved nomination for Martyn, who since joining the Council, has helped grow the Summer Fair, started the Annual Family Fun Day at Redwood Drive, and has helped with the progress of the refurbishment of Redwood Drive Community Centre.  Giving up hours of his time.   He really cares about the village, especially lower Waddington where he lives.

On the 25th December we had a Christmas Lunch in the Community Hub for those who would be on their own, we had just over 20 residents attend, along with our team of volunteers, who helped organise it.

In 2026, we will be having our Summer Fair Weekend on the 19th and 20th June, the Family Fun Day on the 5th September, and the Christmas Fair on the 21st November.

The Parish Council also run a Warm Welcome Space, every Friday in the Community Hub, from 10am to 2pm, where anyone can come along, have a warm drink, biscuits, and a warm lunch of beans on toast, of soup and a roll.   You can play games, do craft, or just sit and chat, the choice is yours.

Now that winter approaches please look out for each other especially the vulnerable a phone call or a knock on your neighbours' door can often be a welcome greeting to those who don't see anyone for days on end.

An update on the refurbishment of Redwood Community centre:  A new updated CCTV system has now been fitted to monitor anti-social behaviour as well as dog fouling which seems to be a regular thing during the dark winter months. The road has been widened to make it safer and easier to get in and out.  We have had some tree and hedge work done.  New heating / air conditioning units have been fitted, and work to paint the interior is on the way.  We also, have plans for a solar power system, as well as big improvements to the playpark which we have had input and ideas from the children from Redwood School Academy. When you have six playparks to manage it often takes time to improve them all and Redwood is well overdue some TLC.

The Parish Council would like to thank Mr Graham Woolsey, a resident of Waddington, who can often be seen going round the village litter picking.  Graham is a volunteer and not a member of staff, and his help is very much appreciated.
