Fun Day 2025
Fun Day Dog Show

Waddington Parish Council

Did you know that Waddington Parish Council, has 15 Councillors, and that Parish Councillors are volunteers, they do not get paid.    This year has been a busy year for the Parish Council, and as the Clerk to the Parish Council, I am very grateful, to all the Councillors, who give up their free time to help run events for the Village and help look after the Councils assets.

Waddington Parish Council has four public buildings, three playing fields, six playgrounds, nine members of staff, a burial ground, streetlights and street furniture to look after.  This year we have organised a Summer Fair, a Fun Day and we are currently working on the Christmas Fair.

The Summer Fair weekend was held on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st June, it was a very hot weekend.  Which was great for people attending, but not so much for those who had to work.  On the Friday we had ‘Posted Notes’ a Rock, Pop and Indie covers band, for the first time and they will be returning next year.  We also had the funfair, bar and food vans.  A great evening of entertainment on a lovely summers evening.  On the Saturday, we had the day event with stalls, funfair, food vans, bar, miniature railway, classic cars and entertainment.   We had the return of Ta’Hoots Bar, with James Hooton from Emmerdale, happy to talk to fans and have his picture taken.   Unfortunately, we had to cancel the dog show due to the hot weather.  In the evening, we had the return of ‘General Admission’ a great band, who we have booked again for next year.    It was lovely to see so many people over the weekend, thank you to all who were involved.  We will be doing it all again next year on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th June 2026, so put it in your diaries.

So, after the Summer Fair in June, when it was too hot to host the dog show, it was decided to not only reschedule the dog show but showcase the Redwood community centre by having a Fun Day.   So, on Saturday 20th September we had a Family Fund Day, and yes the good old British weather didn't fail. Yes, we had some rain, but it didn't stop some hardcore dog owners bring 20 dogs to the event as well as many families who supported the local event on a damp Saturday afternoon, big thanks to Lincoln Edge vets who sponsored the prizes for the dog show. This meant a lot of happy four-legged canines going home with a goody bag and rosette.  It was nice to see villagers from the new estates within the village, who may not have even visited the area before. It also showcased the newly cladded community hub with its new flooring and of course the new goalposts which are part of the ongoing rejuvenation down on redwood park that the Parish Council are working on. Big thanks to team Clangers for their mobile bar. The Royal British Legion who put on a fabulous BBQ and the Parish Council Green events team for setting up and making the day successful

We are currently looking at improving the Redwood Drive Playground, it has not had any improvements done to it since 2009, and it needs some tidying up, items replaced and some new equipment.  We are working with Redwood Academy on what the children would like to see in the park, and we are applying for grants to help pay for the work.  A key part of the new equipment is to have some inclusive equipment that can be used by all young people.

So, as you can see the Councillors and staff have been very busy, if you attend one of the events, we can be easily identified, in our green ‘Event Staff’ t-shirts or hi-vis vests.  A lot of work goes into organising the events, as well as on the day, and so we hope you enjoy them.

Coming up we have the Annual Christmas Fair on Saturday 22nd November, 11am to 3pm at the Village Hall and field.   All the stalls are either in the hall or one of the two marquees, so a great event, whatever the weather.

This year on Christmas Day, we are putting on a Christmas Dinner for those who will be alone at Christmas, it is from 12pm to 4pm, in the Community Hub, on the High Street.  It is limited space, so please get in touch if you want to come.  You can reserve a place by calling 01522 722793 or emailing waddingtonpc.clerk@outlook.com.
